Benin: Officials launch electronic visa program
Benin launches an electronic visa (e-visa) program to attract tourists
Event
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on April 22 that a new electronic visa, or e-visa, system has been launched. Under the new program, visas can be requested and paid for online on the official government website. If authorities approve the request, a visa will be sent by email in less than 48 hours. The visa costs from 50 to 100 euros (USD 60 to 121) depending on the type and duration. The change to an online system comes as the government attempts to turn tourism into a larger economic sector.
Advice
Individuals requiring a visa for Benin are advised to remain alert to the risk of fraudulent websites and to use the official Benin government website or contact the nearest Benin Embassy or Consulate for more information.
