Authorities report drought in northern regions of Sri Lanka is affecting more than 600,000 people

According to the Sri Lankan Disaster Management Centre, an ongoing drought in 11 districts of northern Sri Lanka has affected at least 613,326 people. According to government officials, Puttalam district has been the most affected by the lack of rainfall. A lower-than-average crop yield is expected this year and the imposition of water rationing measures is possible in northern Sri Lanka in the coming weeks if drought conditions persist.
