Dominican Rep.: Floods and landslides May 9

Heavy rainfall, which has led to floods and landslides, has affected several provinces of the Dominican Republic since Wednesday, May 2. Among the most affected areas are the central provinces of La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, and San Cristóbal. The Emergency Operations Center (CEO) has already issued a red alert level in San Cristóbal province; at least one death has been recorded, 2865 people have been displaced, and 773 houses and several infrastructure points have been damaged across the province as of Wednesday, May 9.

Lower green alerts are in effect in much of the rest of the country.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to follow weather reports and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
