France: Taxi driver demonstration in Lyon May 15

Taxi drivers to stage demonstrations in Lyon on May 15; no strike planned, but localized traffic disruptions and reduced taxi availability likely

Warning

Event

Taxi drivers plan to demonstrate on Tuesday, May 15, in Lyon against perceived unfair competition from private chauffeured car services and ride-sharing services (such as Uber). One procession of taxis will meet at 07:00 (local time) at the Saint-Exupéry Airport (LYS) and begin driving at 08:00. The second procession will also meet at 07:00 at the Plaine de Gerland and begin driving at 08:30. The two taxi caravans will meet at the Rhône Prefecture around 11:00. No service strike is planned, but reduced taxi services and localized traffic congestion during the period of the demonstration are to be expected.

Advice

Travelers are advised to anticipate potential transportation disruptions and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations during Tuesday's demonstrations. Those planning travel to or from LYS in particular are advised to anticipate potential congestion around the airport and to plan accordingly.
