Powerful storms struck central Chile, including the capital region, on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 29, causing mass power outages. At least 500,000 clients were without electricity nationwide, including 87,000 in the Santiago Metropolitan Region (notably in the La Reina, Puente Alto, Lo Espejo, Estación Central, and San José de Maipo areas). Blackouts were also reported in the following regions: Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule, and Biobío. Further outages are likely on May 30, as adverse weather conditions persist.
