The Météo France weather service has issued orange thunderstorm alerts, the second-highest on a four-point scale, for the southwest and center of the country for Wednesday, July 4. As of Wednesday morning (local time), alerts are in effect in the following 19 departments: Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Charente, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot, Cantal, Corrèze, Creuse, Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Haute-Loire, and Haute-Vienne. Related air and rail disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible.
