China: Heavy rain and flooding in Sichuan and Shaanxi /update 1

Torrential rain batters Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces, impacting daily life; several victims; rainstorm alerts issued

In Sichuan province, flooding and landslides caused by several consecutive days of heavy downpours have killed at least seven people as of Thursday, July 5, and injured many more, as well as damaged property and infrastructure (roads, bridges, buildings). In Sichuan alone, over 120,000 people have been directly affected, with thousands forced to evacuate their homes. In Shaanxi province (northwest), where rainstorm alerts have been issued over the last few days, around 20,000 people have been affected by flooding.
