US: Flash flood warnings in the east August 1 /update 1

Flash flood watches and warnings in effect in various eastern states August 1; storms forecast August 1-3; monitor the situation

Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast for much of the eastern US on Wednesday, August 1; this adverse weather could potentially continue through Friday, August 3. As such, flight delays and cancelations are possible at airports throughout the region in the coming hours and days, including in New York City-Newark (JKF, LGA, EWR), Washington, DC-Baltimore (BWI, DCA, IAD), Boston (BOS), Philadelphia (PHL), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Atlanta (ATL). Disruptions are particularly likely in the afternoon and evening (local time). Other transportation disruptions, inducing hazardous driving conditions and rail disruptions, are also possible, along with power outages. 

Flash flood watches and warnings are in effect in various areas in the east of the country as of early Wednesday. The alerts, issued by the National Weather Service, are currently place in parts of the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Individuals in the above areas are advised to follow local weather reports and adhere to any advice or instruction issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
