Chile: Easter Island travel restrictions from August 1

Travelers to Easter Island henceforth only permitted stays of up to 30 days; proof of accommodation and return travel required

Beginning on Wednesday, August 1, travelers to Easter Island will only be permitted to remain for a maximum period of 30 days. They will need to show proof of return travel upon entry, as well as proof of a reservation at an accommodation authorized by the National Tourism Service (SERNATUR) or a letter of invitation from an Easter Island resident.

LATAM, the only airline serving Easter Island, is advising travelers to arrive at the airport three hours ahead of their flights to allow time to complete the necessary checks.

The measures are intended as a means to protect the ecological and cultural heritage of the region.
