Chile: Health worker protest in Santiago August 13

Event

Municipal healthcare workers represented by the Confusam union (Confederación Nacional de Funcionarios de Salud Municipal) will hold a demonstration on Monday, August 13, in the capital Santiago. Demonstrators will gather beginning at 11:00 (local time) at Plaza de la Constitución. The gathering will likely remain calm but low-intensity violence cannot be ruled out. Localized traffic disruptions are also possible. 

Context

The protest is being held to demand more public financing for health services, among other demands. Confusam has threatened it would hold further protests in the near term if the government does not address the union’s concerns.
