The storm could potentially cause severe damage due to heavy rainfall and powerful winds. The typhoon is to first pass over the southwestern coast - north-northeast of Mokpo (South Jeolla province) - on the morning of August 23; Jeju Island and the southern coast will also be affected.

Soulik, the season's 19th typhoon, has been classified as strong medium-sized typhoon. Soulik may become the first to directly hit the country since Typhoon Sanba in 2012.
