Greece: National ferry strike to continue on September 4 /update 1

Ferry workers to continue nationwide strike on September 4; significant transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

The Panhellenic Seamen's Federation (PNO) has announced it will hold another 24-hour strike on Tuesday, September 4. Ferry services across Greece will therefore be suspended. A first day of strike held on Monday, September 3, affected an estimated 180,000 travelers.

Context

PNO leaders are demanding salary increases and tax breaks for ferry workers. According to the union, it decided to hold a 24-hour strike on September 3 after the Greek Shipowners Association for Passenger Ships (SEEN) failed to renew the seaman’s collective labor agreement for 2018.

Advice

Travelers in Greece are advised to monitor the situation, prepare for limited ferry services, and to make other travel arrangements if necessary.
