Fire spreads on the Peljesac peninsula September 26; associated traffic disruptions anticipated

A fire erupted in southern Croatia on Wednesday, September 26, and has been progressing towards the village of Mokalo on the Peljesac peninsula. At least 40 residents and tourists in camping areas have reportedly been evacuated. Strong winds have accompanied these wildfires, disrupting ferry traffic between Croatian islands, as well as on bridges and highways. Further evacuations and road closures are possible as firefighters work to contain the fire.
