Event

Heavy rain is forecast for several Indian regions through Monday, October 8, including in parts of Kerala state, Tamil Nadu state, Karnataka state, Puducherry, the Lakshadweep archipelago, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms and gusty conditions are also forecast in other parts of southern India over the coming days, including in the states of Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Heavy surf is to be expected along the coasts of the aforementioned regions, particularly in the southern and central Arabian Sea. Consequent flash flooding, landslides, transportation disruptions, and power outages are possible in affected areas.

Context

Advice

Individuals present in the abovementioned areas are advised to keep abreast of local weather forecasts, expect transportation disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities. Do not attempt to drive on a flooded road. Be advised that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all food discarded.
