Belgium: Customs agent strike at Brussels Airport October 17

Customs agents launch surprise work-to-rule strikes at Brussels and Liège international airports October 17; delays expected

Warning

Event

Belgian customs agents launched surprise “work-to-rule” strikes at Brussels-Zaventem (BRU) and Liège (LGG) international airports around 07:30 (local time) on Wednesday, October 17. The strike may lead to significant processing delays at border controls, with agents more thoroughly checking passengers and baggage. Flight delays, notably impacting arrivals, are also likely.

The strike is expected to run until around noon, but the union behind the action has warned it could be renewed or new strikes could be called in the near-term if their demands are not met.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport and allow for extra wait times.
