Nationwide public transportation strike launched October 16; further disruptions likely in the coming days

Warning

Event

The National Federation of Associations for Road Transporters launched a nationwide strike on Tuesday, October 16, to denounce police bribery and poor road conditions, as well as demand a clear definition of the role of each civil servant in charge of road circulation. As such, no taxis, trucks, or buses were operating in the country on Tuesday. Private schools, which depend on minibuses and taxis to drop off and pick up children, told students to stay at home and many civil servants did not go to work. The duration of the strike remains unclear, but further disruptions are likely until drivers' demands are met.

Advice

Individuals present in Guinea-Bissau are advised to monitor development to the situation, plan alternative modes of transportation, and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
