Meteorologists issue “code red” warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms in eastern and northern Saudi Arabia November 6-9; flooding, transportation disruptions, and power outages possible

Intense storms have continued across Saudi Arabia and more rain is forecast in the eastern and northern portions of the country from Tuesday, November 6, through Friday, November 9. Meteorologists have issued a "code red" warning for thunderstorms and torrential rain in Eastern province, with more rain forecast for the regions of Ha'il, Al-Jawf, Qassim, Riyadh, and Tabuk. Storms are also possible in Najran, Jizan, Asir, Bahah, and Mecca regions.
Storms have dropped large amounts of rain over Saudi Arabia since last week, causing flooding and power outages. Further flooding, power outages, and transportation and government service disruptions are possible in affected areas over the coming days.
Context
Heavy rain and associated flooding had left at least 14 people dead in Saudi Arabia as of late October.
Torrential rain has also caused flooding and government closures in neighboring Kuwait.

Individuals in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are advised to monitor weather reports, anticipate transportation and government service disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
