The second round of parliamentary and municipal elections will be held on December 1; associated political opposition protests possible

Bahrain will hold its second round of parliamentary and municipal elections on Saturday, December 1. According to official results, only nine parliamentary districts and five local council seats were decided in the first round of voting which was held on November 24. The December 1 vote determines the representatives for the remaining 31 parliamentary districts and 25 municipal seats. Shi’a opposition leaders have called on supporters to continue to boycott the elections. Associated protests are possible on December 1 and the days leading up to the vote. Heightened security measures and traffic disruptions are anticipated around all demonstrations and polling stations.
Context
The Shi'a community in Bahrain accuses the Sunni government of marginalizing them. The Shi'a opposition party Al-Wefaq has called on supports to boycott the elections.
