US: Blizzard to bring heavy snowfall to Sierra Nevada (California) Jan. 16-18

A large blizzard is set to hit eastern California from Wednesday, January 16, to Friday, January 18, bringing up to 2 m (6.6 ft) of snow to parts of the Sierra Nevada mountains along with strong winds of 80-125 km/h (50-80 mph). Snowfall estimates range from 15 cm (6 in) at lower elevations to 60-150 cm (2-5 ft) for areas above 2000 m (7000 ft) elevation, and localized totals of up to 2 m (6.6 ft). Most of the snow is forecast to fall on Wednesday and into the morning (local time) of Thursday, January 17.
