Nationwide climate change protests February 7; heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions expected

Thousand of students are expected to demonstrate across the country on Thursday, February 7. The main event will take place in Leuven at 12:30 (local time) at Ladeuzeplein Square. Other demonstrations will also take place notably in the capital Brussels, where participants are expected to march from the Gare du Nord to the Gare du Midi. Other demonstrations will take place in Mons, Herve, Liège, Anvers, Courtrai, and Hasselt. Significant disruptions are likely around any demonstration site.

Monthly related protests have taken place in Belgium since September 2018, notably in Brussels, to demand that states who signed the Paris Agreement in 2015, commit to reduce their impact on global warming.
