Civil society group plans authorized demonstration in Samara on February 10; localized traffic disruptions expected

Warning

Event

A civil society group is scheduled to hold a demonstration in downtown Samara on Sunday, February 10, to protest the recent decision to end some minibus services in the city. Samara city officials have approved the rally, which will take place outside the DK 'Chayka' cultural center from 13:00 until 15:00 (local time). Around 500 people are expected to participate in the demonstration. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated in the area.

Context

The demonstration is being organized to protest the cancelation of minibus service in the Krasnoglinsky district. City officials ended some minibus services in 2018 to reduce duplicated routes with municipal buses. However, residents claim that the decision has led to overcrowding on municipal routes.

Advice

Individuals in Samara are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution and anticipate heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions.
