Winter weather and flooding reported in ten provinces February 11; at least one person killed in Khuzestan province

Warning

Event

According to reports citing the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) on Monday, February 11, winter weather (e.g. snowfall, blizzard conditions) and flooding have been reported in ten provinces across Iran, leaving at least one person dead due to an associated mudslide in Khuzestan province. In addition to Khuzestan province, winter weather and flooding have been reported in the provinces of Yazd, Markazi, Mazandaran, Lorestan, Kermanshah, Fars, Semnan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Ilam, forcing at least 240 people to take refuge in emergency shelters.

Transportation disruptions (including road closures and flight delays and cancelations) are possible in affected areas over the coming hours and days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate flooding and transportation disruptions, and remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
