Sri Lanka: Student demonstration dispersed in Colombo March 13

The Inter-University Students Federation organized a student protest in Colombo on Wednesday, March 13, to protest counterterrorism legislation. Some 1500 students were estimated to be participating in the protest, which was moving from the University Grants Commission toward parliament before police dispersed the demonstration with tear gas and water cannons. Localized traffic disruptions, including road closures, were reported amid the heightened security presence.

Similar demonstrations are possible in Colombo over the coming days and weeks.
