Warning

Event

Normal airport operations are to be expected in Spain over the Easter holiday weekend after organizers announced on April 20 that strikes by airport workers originally planned for Sunday, April 21, and Wednesday, April 24, were called off. The unions - representing the approximately 60,000 airport ground staff who were expected to participate in the work stoppages - made the announcement after reporting progress in talks with management. Negotiations are set to resume on Monday, April 22.

Related strikes remain possible in the coming days and weeks should talks between union leadership and management stall.

Context

The Christian holiday of Easter is celebrated on Sunday, April 21. Various regions in Spain observe public holidays from Thursday, April 18, to Tuesday, April 23.

Advice

Individuals traveling through Spanish airports in the coming days and weeks are advised to monitor the situation and, despite the canceled strikes, to anticipate increased congestion and delays at airports and other travel hubs over the long Easter holiday weekend.
