More than 40 flights rerouted in Moscow as of May 6; additional flight disruptions likely over the coming hours

More than 40 flights have been rerouted from Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO) to neighboring airports as of Monday morning (local time), May 6. Many of the flights have been rerouted to Domodedovo Airport (DME), also in Moscow, while SVO continues to operate on a single runway. Over 100 flights have also been delayed or canceled at Moscow area airports.

Additional flight disruptions are likely over the coming hours.

Context

Flight disruptions follow the emergency landing of Aeroflot flight SU1492 at SVO after the plane - bound for Murmansk - caught fire in mid-air on May 5. At least 41 people are believed to have been killed in the incident.
