Thailand: ASEAN Summit held in Bangkok June 20-23

Thailand will host the ASEAN Summit on June 20-23 in central Bangkok; heightened security presence and transportation disruptions expected

Thailand is set to host the 34th ASEAN Summit from Thursday, June 20, to Sunday, June 23, in central Bangkok. The summit will be held at the Athenee Hotel in Lumphini subdistrict (Pathum Wan district), near the Phloen Chit BTS station. An estimated 10,000 security personnel will be deployed in Bangkok and transportation disruptions are expected. Roads between Phloen Chit Road and Sarasin Road, including Witthayu Road and Soi Ruam Ruedi, will be closed from 06:00 (local time) on Saturday, June 22, to 18:00 on Sunday. Other transportation disruptions, including heightened security and congestion on the BTS system, are expected during the summit.
