Seismologists report 6.3-magnitude earthquake in western Panama, near Costa Rican border, on June 26; associated damage and disruptions, and further aftershocks, possible
Event
The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in western Panama's Chiriquí province, near the Costa Rican border, in the early hours (local time) of Wednesday, June 26. The quake struck at 00:23 approximately 40 km (25 mi) from the city of David (Chiriquí province) at a depth of 10 km (6.2 mi). Localized infrastructure damage and associated transportation and telecommunication disruptions are possible. Further aftershocks are also possible.
