Warning

Event

The Khalifa Haftar-led Libyan National Army (LNA) reportedly launched an airstrike targeting a Turkish aircraft on the runway of Tripoli's Mitiga International Airport (MJI) at approximately 19:00 (local time) on Sunday, June 30. An LNA commander asserted the Turkish aircraft was preparing to launch a combat mission against LNA positions; previous LNA statements warned that they would attack Turkish military assets that the LNA assessed were to be used against them.

The airport has reportedly suspended operations following the attack but is expected to resume operations at 21:00 on Sunday. Additional LNA fire targeting Turkish military assets is possible over the coming hours and days.

Advice

Individuals in Tripoli are advised to monitor developments, avoid the airport until further notice, confirm flight reservations if flying via MJI, and contact their airline for further information.

The security environment in Libya remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
