France: Severe weather warnings in several departments July 8

Thunderstorm warnings issued in seven departments for July 8; transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The French meteorological agency has issued severe weather warnings due to thunder storms in seven departments in the south west of France for Monday, July 8, at 14:00 (local time) until Tuesday, July 9, at 06:00. The affected departments includes the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Ariege, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées, Tarn, and Tarn-et-Garonne.

Heavy rains, strong winds, and associated disruptions, including road closures, and train and flight delays and cancelations are possible. Residual disruptions to transportation are possible in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor developments, prepare for residual disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain chemical products and wastewater; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
