Warning

Event

Individuals from the Green March and Rebel of Juan Hubieres groups are slated to protest on Sunday, July 14, against rising fuel prices in Santiago. The protest will take place at the Monumento de Santiago as of 09:00 (local time). Protesters will also take advantage to protest corruption and the ongoing struggle against the amendment of the constitution for an increase in presidential term limits.

Transportation disruptions are to be expected in the areas surrounding the Monumento. A heightened security presence is also possible.

Context

Protesters are continuously opposing a proposal to remove presidential term limits since late June, which is largely advocated by President Danilo Medina's supporters. President Medina is currently serving his second term in office.

Advice

Individuals in Santiago are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution, monitor the situation, allow ample travel time, and obey instructions issued by the local authorities.
