Sudan: Etihad Airways to resume Khartoum-Abu Dhabi flights July 16

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways will resume regular flights between Khartoum International Airport (KRT) and Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) on Tuesday, July 16. Flights are scheduled to depart Khartoum every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 12:50 (local time). The airline had previously suspended service to Sudan on June 9 due to security concerns. Dubai-based Emirates also resumed service to Khartoum on Monday, July 8.

Context

Multiple airlines suspended operations in Sudan after Sudanese security forces and affiliated militias on June 3 violently dispersed a sit-in in Khartoum, in which protesters were advocating for a transition to a civilian-led government. More than 128 people were killed and hundreds of others wounded in the assault on the protest camp.
