Guatemala will hold Independence Day celebrations nationwide from Friday, September 13, through Sunday, September 15, with key ceremonies taking place in Guatemala City, where annual military parades by students and service members will take place. The official Independence Day is on September 15.

The capital's mayor stated that at least 250 parades are planned in the city over three days, beginning as early as Friday. An estimated 1.3 million participants are expected in national activities.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions - particularly road closures - are expected in the capital, and especially so in the historic center. Similar celebrations are likely to take place in major urban areas around the country.
