Cathay Pacific Airline suspends several long-haul flights following decreased customer demand September 12; confirm flight reservations

Warning

Event

Hong Kong's largest airline, Cathay Pacific, announced an indefinite suspension of long-haul daytime flights to Paris and Frankfurt, as well as all flights to Medan (Indonesia) and Dublin as of Thursday, September 12. Flights to Dublin will be suspended from Thursday, November 7, and will reportedly only operate during summer months as of 2020. The company will also cut a number of flights to New York, Washington DC, and Vancouver from Tuesday, October 29, onwards. Short-haul flights to mainland China may also be suspended in the coming weeks.

Context

The decision follows the announcement of a 38 percent drop in customers in August as a result of increasingly violent protests in Hong Kong, along with hiring freeze.

Advice

Individuals are advised to confirm the status of their flights and contact the airline for more information.
