Warning

Event

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued a statement on Wednesday, September 11, claiming that three Australian nationals, including two with the British citizenship, are currently detained and jailed in Iran. The statement says that authorities are providing consular assistance to the families. According to media reports, all three are being detained in a jail in Tehran.

The Australian government advises its nationals to reconsider the need to travel to Iran "due to the risk that foreigners, including Australians, could be arbitrarily detained or arrested. Dual nationals are also at risk".

Similar arrests of foreign nationals are possible in Iran in the near term.

Advice
