Independence Day celebrations scheduled for September 15, 16; festivities and associated disruptions expected in Mexico City and across country

Mexico will hold Independence Day celebrations nationwide on Sunday, September 15, and on Monday, September 16, with the main events taking place in Mexico City. On Sunday, people will gather at the Zocalo as per annual tradition as of 16:00 (local time), where a concert will be held, as well as other activities and speeches throughout the evening. On Monday, the civic-military parade will take place through the streets of Mexico City. The Cry of Independence will also take place at 23:00 by President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador from the balcony of the National Palace.
An estimated 2000 security units will be deployed throughout the city for the security of the public during the Independence Day activities.
Road closures and transportation disruptions are to be expected in the capital. Similar celebrations are likely to take place in major urban areas around the country.
