Several civil society groups have called for march in Mexico City on Wednesday, October 2, to commemorate the 51 students that died in a protest in 1968. Participants plan to gather at Tlatelolco at 16:00 (local time) and then march to Zócalo.
A group of university students has also called on students to participate in ongoing strikes to bring attention to the issue, and to walk out of the institutions on Wednesday for a protest at the Plaza de las Tres Culturas at 16:00. At least seven universities have called for the strike.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has called for protesters to remain peaceful, and has said that there will be a heightened security presence in the capital during the march. Localized transport disruptions along the march route are also likely.
