Iranian emergency officials have confirmed at least five deaths and over 300 injuries following a 5.9-magnitude earthquake in East Azerbaijan province on Friday, November 8. According to local media reports, three villages suffered significant damages from the quake. Another 30 homes were reportedly destroyed near the epicenter, about 57 km (35 mi) northeast of Hashtrud. Over 40 aftershocks have also been recorded since the initial earthquake hit at 02:17 (local time). Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing as of 09:00 on Friday. Further details regarding casualties and damages are expected to be released in the coming hours.
