India: Security forces arrest three terror suspects in Assam November 25

Indian security forces have arrested three individuals on terror charges in Assam on Monday, November 25. According to the authorities, the suspects were in possession of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and were planning to conduct attacks on religious congregations in Assam and Delhi. The suspects are believed to have links with the Islamic State (IS). Details are still emerging.

Context

For decades, a variety of terrorist actors have perpetrated attacks on Indian territory. Ten years ago, in November 2008 terrorists attacked a number of sites in Mumbai, including luxury hotels, a railway station, a religious site, and a restaurant. Over 160 people were killed (including about 30 tourists and foreign businessmen) and more than 300 were injured.
