The South African Weather Service issued orange and red weather warnings at 12:22 (local time) on Wednesday, December 11, for KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape regions. Red alerts have been issued in the KwaZulu-Natal localities of Ethetwini, uMhlathuze, Mtubatuba, Eshowe, and Richards Bay, where heavy rains and related flooding have been reported. In Eastern Cape, orange warnings have been issued for several localities where strong winds and waves are forecasted. The alerts are expected to remain in effect through at least Thursday, December 12.
Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions and power outages are possible over the coming hours.
