Iran: Heavy rains cause flooding across six provinces April 1

As of Wednesday, April 1, widespread flooding caused by heavy rains has left 21 people dead and one person missing across Iran. An additional 22 people have reportedly been injured. According to government officials, fatalities have been recorded in the provinces of Fars, Hormozgan, Qom, Sistan and Baluchistan, Bushehr, and Khuzestan. At least 11 people were killed last week by severe flooding.

Further heavy rainfall, flooding, and associated disruptions, including road closures, are possible in the affected areas over the near term.

Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.

Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult. Floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded. Be aware that the risk of contracting water and mosquito-borne diseases tends to rise after periods of heavy rainfall.
