Libya: Suspected LNA airstrikes target Misrata May 6
LNA forces reportedly conduct airstrikes in Misrata May 6; further attacks likely in the near term

Aircraft belonging to the Libyan National Army (LNA) reportedly conducted airstrikes on Government of National Accord (GNA) targets in Misrata at approximately 19:15 (local time) on Wednesday, May 6. The GNA have denied that the explosions were the result of airstrikes, stating that they were due to badly stored ammunition. As of Wednesday evening, there have been no reports of casualties.
Further attacks are possible in the region in the near term.
Context
The Libyan National Army (LNA) launched an offensive on Tripoli on April 4, 2019, and prompted evacuations of foreigners from Tripoli on April 7, 2019. LNA and Government of National Accord (GNA) airstrikes have been sporadically reported since April 8, 2019. The bulk of recent fighting has been concentrated in the southern suburbs of the capital.
