Mexico: Tropical Storm Christobal makes landfall near Ciudad del Carmen (Campeche state) June 3 /update 1

Tropical Storm Christobal made landfall near Ciudad del Carmen (Campeche state) at approximately 07:00 (local time) on Wednesday, June 3. Christobal is currently located 37km (23mi) south of Ciudad del Carmen and is currently sustaining winds of 75kmh (47mph). At least one person was killed in a storm-related incident in Rancho Nuevo (Chiapas state). Flooding and landslides have been reported in the Chiapas municipalities of Bochil, Chicoasén, Copainalá, Ixtapa, Tapachula, Tecpatán, and Unión Juárez. Flooding has also been reported in parts of Tabasco, and Yucatan states and government agencies carried out some localized evacuations in affected areas of Campeche and Chiapas states. Inclement weather damaged over 200 structures in Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Veracruz, and Yucatan states. Heavy rainfall has also occurred in parts of Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, and Veracruz states. Christobal is currently forecast to move northeast and will move back into the Gulf of Mexico to the west of Campeche on Friday, June 5, where it will strengthen as it moves towards the southern US.

Further strong winds, heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, and associated disruptions to transport and business operations are possible in the coming days.
