Police clashed with demonstrators who gathered in the North Beach area of Durban (KwaZulu-Natal province) on Saturday, June 27, for an unauthorized protest against gender-based violence. Security forces used stun grenades to disperse a crowd of some 100 people who intended to march on Durban City Hall. A number of protesters were also arrested. Similar demonstrations are planned to occur in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
