Honduras: Transport unions begin nationwide strike September 7

Several transport unions have called for a nationwide strike to begin on Monday, September 7, due to the economic impacts of the restrictions which the government has imposed during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has had on the transport sector. According to media sources, transport workers are demanding alternative reopening strategies for the transportation sector.

Intercity bus drivers have reportedly stated they will not participate in the strike action; however, bus service disruptions between cities and disruption to other public transport services remain possible. Associated demonstrations are also possible and a heightened security presence in the vicinity of all protests is likely.
