Vietnam: Tropical Storm Nangka to make landfall in north-central Vietnam on October 14 /update 2

Event

Tropical Storm Nangka is expected to make landfall in north-central Vietnam on Wednesday, October 14. The storm follows days of rainfall after Tropical Storm Linfa made landfall in the center of the country on Sunday, October 11, causing deadly floods and landslides in several provinces. At least 28 people have died nationwide, and dozens more remain missing. Approximately 130,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed, and significant disruption to harvests have been reported.

As of 00:45(UTC) on Wednesday, Nangka was located approximately 180km (110mi) east-southeast of Hanoi, moving in a west-northwest direction. Maximum sustained winds 74kph (46mph) have been recorded, with gusts of up to 110kph (70mph). Tropical Storm Nangka is expected to weaken slightly prior to making landfall.

Up to 400mm (15.7in) of further rainfall is expected in parts of central and northern Vietnam over the coming days, with continued risks of flooding and landslides, particularly in mountainous areas.
