Cambodia: Authorities warn of further heavy rains due to passage of Typhoon Molave October 28-29

Authorities have warned that heavy rains and strong winds are forecast to affect parts of Cambodia between Wednesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 29, as Typhoon Molave moves across neighboring Laos. Authorities have warned that the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Oddar Meanchey, Kampong Thom, Pailin, Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri, Siem Reap, and Stung Treng. Molave is forecast to enter Laos as a Category 1 typhoon on Wednesday; however, it will rapidly weaken into a tropical storm and then into a tropical depression as it moves into Thailand on Thursday. Sustained flooding in Cambodia has already displaced 545,768 people from across 20 provinces, including Phnom Penh. Some 40 people have been killed in flood-related incidents.

Heavy rainfall could result in flooding, landslides, and disruptions to transport, businesses, and utilities as the storm system approaches.

Those in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
