Hong Kong: Authorities arrest pro-democratic lawmakers November 1

Authorities arrest pro-democratic lawmakers November 1; further arrests and associated unrest possible in the near term

Informational

Event

Security forces arrested seven pro-democratic lawmakers in Hong Kong on Sunday morning, November 1, after them being charged for hampering a legislative council meeting in May. The arrests were announced on each of the lawmakers' personal social media accounts. Although Beijing passed a security legislation in June which led to around 30 arrests thus far, the arrest of the lawmakers on Sunday does not seem to be directly linked to the legislation.

Authorities have not commented on the arrests as of Sunday afternoon.

Further arrests and associated unrest are possible across Hong Kong over the near term.

Advice

Individuals in Hong Kong are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to all other instructions issued by local authorities.
