Unidentified assailants attack hospital building in Bani Walid (Sof-Aljeen district) on November 1; further attacks possible

Unidentified assailants attacked the headquarters of the investigation and rapid response teams of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in Bani Walid (Sof-Aljeen district) on Sunday, November 1. The perpetrators allegedly attempted to set fire to the building and fired shots during the attack on the administrative building. No casualties have been reported in the incident but the hospital was forced to close following the attack. Those that carried out the assault were reportedly people whose relatives had died from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

A heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of the hospital over the near term and further similar attacks cannot be ruled out.
