Vietnam: Tropical Storm Etau to make landfall between Phu Yen and Ninh Thuan provinces November 11

Event

Tropical Storm Etau, which is moving westwards after forming in the South China Sea, is expected to make landfall in the vicinity of between Phu Yen and Ninh Thuan provinces on Wednesday, November 11. Etau is currently sustaining winds of up to 65kph (40mph) with gusts reaching 90kph (56mph); however, it is expected to intensify prior to landfall before then weakening into a tropical depression as it moves into Cambodia. Authorities have warned that provinces between Quang Binh and Khanh Hoa, including the Central Highlands, could experience flooding. Rainfall in Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa is expected to reach 400mm (16in) between Monday, November 9, and Thursday, November 12. Quang Binh and the Central Highlands are expected to receive 200mm (8in) of rainfall over this period. Dangerous sea conditions are also forecast in affected coastal areas.

Flooding and landslides are possible during the storm's passing.
