Iran: Activists plan to protest outside the Ministry of Justice in Tehran Dec. 23
Activists to protest at Ministry of Justice in Tehran, Iran, from 1400 Dec. 23. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.
Event
Activists plan to protest outside the Ministry of Justice in Tehran, from 1400 Dec. 23, in support of striking workers at the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-industrial Complex. Workers claim that conditions at the factory - located near Shush, Khuzestan Province - have deteriorated since its privatization in 2016. In June, workers at Haft Tappeh launched a strike to call for several demands, including the payment of their wages, a reversal of the factory's privatization, and the dismissal of the company's owners.
Increased security measures, as well as localized transport disruptions, are likely near the protest site. Clashes between security personnel and protesters may materialize if demonstrators refuse orders to disperse or are overly disruptive.
Advice
Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling through the affected area Dec. 23.
